On the quay in the heart of old Harwich, with splendid views of the Stour and Orwell estuaries the Pier at Harwich combines two historic properties and offers a choice of two quality restaurants and fourteen comfortable bedrooms.
The Pier is a very much a family concern, it is owned by the Milsom family who also own the highly acclaimed Le Talbooth Restaurant, Maison Talbooth Hotel and Milsoms Hotel and Restaurant in Dedham, near Colchester.
The Pier at Harwich has been managed by Chris and Vreni Oakley for over twenty years, they have been joined by Nick Chambers, as General Manager, responsible for all day to day Front of House operations. They are very much part of the local community with the restaurants enjoying a strong local following.
With fishing boats bobbing only feet from the front door you would expect the freshest of fish and you will not be disappointed. The hotel has a nautical flavour throughout and the kitchen where Chris Oakley has been making the most of all the fresh fish for over twenty years is the heart of the operation.
The two restaurants the Harbourside and the Half penny Pier cater for every taste and every pocket and the ground floor Bar serves the best coffee in Harwich. The Harbourside restaurant, with its splendid panoramic views, has gained a well deserved reputation as one of the country's premier seafood restaurants.
For lunch or dinner in a more informal setting, sample the Ha' penny which has a tremendous local following for the quality of its cooking for all the family.The Pier is only a ten minute drive from Parkeston Quay and there is private parking for guests.
Harwich is already served by an excellent road network via the A120 and is within easy walking distance of the London (Liverpool Street) main line train station.
The Pier Hotel is also accessible by water, following the opening of yacht berths at the adjacent Ha' penny Pier marina, so why not arrive by boat... it could be much more fun!
